THRA works on the ground with people across the spectrum of drug use to end the War on Drugs and its harms with nonjudgmental and radical harm reduction services, advocacy, education, and training.
PRIORITIZING/RETAINING SERVICE RELIABILITY
We serve 75+ people daily on average providing primarily our peer support services. During our official drop-in hours we have our doors open to anyone who needs anything from just a safe space to sit down or anything from healthcare referrals, STI testing, housing assessments, clothing, wound care, and electrolytes. Our main focus is on providing health and wellness resources specifically for unhoused people who use drugs in Austin, TX.
STABILIZE PHILANTHROPIC SUPPORT
This is where we are reaching out to those who believe in this work as much as we do. Our reliance on grant funding and municipal contracts leaves us vulnerable to the shifts in lobbying, federal, and private sector pressures to divest from people centered social service interventions. Harm reduction works. Period. We choose to see the humanity in everyone we support, listen to, de-escalate, hold space for, and help navigate their circumstances. With the funds we anticipate raising through our Resiliency Campaign, we’ll ensure we’ll continue to save lives, educate our community, and continue to dismantle a system that sees substance use as a moral failing through decades of stigma driven criminalization.
SUSTAINABLE GROWTH
Our programming has grown substantially since our founding in 2019. This has required a nimble approach to maintaining a sustainable degree of expansion. This translates to specifically how we prioritize the most essential needs of our participants. We’re eager to add more hygiene infrastructure and dedicated healthcare and peer support meeting spaces at our new location. As we invest in preparing our new location for the capacity we’re already challenged in meeting, we’ve had to balance the municipal and federal legislative hesitation concerning harm reduction. Our main priority will always be to stay true to our core principles of meeting people where they are at, helping them stay alive, healthy, and serve as witness to and support for the goals towards any positive change.
THE TANGIBLE IMPACT ACROSS COMMUNITY
We served over 2,900 people from July ‘25 through July ‘26, and we track our outcomes. We're expanding this transparency by updating our encampment sweep survey, tracking document replacements and connections to housing, empirically showing the impact wound care has on EMS demands, employment and MAT (Medication-assisted treatment) pathways, and all published in regular impact reports.
